English: The Porte Saint-Denis is a Parisian monument built in 1672 on the site of one of the former gates of the now-demolished wall of Charles V, at today's intersection of the Rue Saint-Denis, the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, the Boulevard de Bonne-Nouvelle and the Boulevard Saint-Denis.The architect was François Blondel and the sculptor, Michel Anguier.

La porte Saint-Denis est un arc de triomphe situé dans l'actuel 10e arrondissement de Paris et construit en 1672, par l'architecte François Blondel, à la gloire de Louis XIV. Elle est située à l'emplacement d'une porte de Paris de l'ancienne enceinte de Charles V . Les murs adjacents ont depuis été détruits.

Oct 2023 • Solo. Situated within sight and down the boulevard from Porte St Denis, this arc is similar in design and size. More to behold and imagine as the city walls were stationed here and then removed in the 17th century as times changed and so did the city. Be mindful of traffic, but otherwise enjoy the view.

This ornamental arch was the first of four to be built in Paris and is located roughly around where the original toll-gate of Porte Saint-Denis through the Wall of Charles V (the city walls at the time surrounding Paris) was situated. The arch was built in the early 1670's and has sculptures, friezes and bas-reliefs on each facade.

It's interesting to note that the Porte Saint-Denis was the inspiration for the Arc de Triomphe which was finished in 1836, and later for New York's Manhattan Bridge Arch, completed in 1909..
